Recital information 2020
For the past sixteen years, the Parry Sound Dance Academy has provided students with an exciting performance experience through it`s yearly recital. The annual recital gives an opportunity for our dancers to shine in front of family and friends and they anticipate this with nervous excitement.
The recital offers our students a professionally directed performance that allows them to present to their families and friends the results of a year’s hard work, dedication, and progress.
A big part of the dance training process includes learning through performance. The experience helps build self-esteem, self-assurance, and contributes to a sense of confidence. Although performance opportunities can help prepare some students for a possible career in dance, they also contribute to children’s success in non-dance activities. That onstage experience can result in better in-school presentations, improved social skills, and strong interview skills for future college or job opportunities. The rehearsal process is a tremendous learning experience as well. It helps the children develop retention skills, and by working with their classmates on a group performance, they learn the positive aspects of working as a team to create the best end result.
Dedication to recital commitments is the responsibility of both students and their parents.
Tickets will go on sale at the Charles W. Stockey Centre February 8, 2020 and do sell fast so please be sure to get yours asap. There is not a limited amount of tickets each family can purchase. Students must stay back stage in the dressing room until either intermission or at the end of the show. If the student wishes to watch the performance they must provide a ticket to enter the theatre. We hope to have volunteers to watch the children until intermission or the end of the show. If you are not watching one of the shows and available we are looking for parents who would be able to do so and be our Dressing Room Mom. Please have the volunteer form filled out. Parents that are watching the show please do not run in and out of the performance.

Costumes will be distributed April 17, 2020. Any outstanding accounts must be paid in full before distribution. Costumes are NOT to be worn at home until after picture day is finished April 19, 2020. Please label all costume pieces to avoid items going missing.
Stage Rehearsal March 28, 2020
Participation in the dress rehearsal is mandatory. The dress rehearsal allows the students to become familiar with the auditorium surroundings and feel comfortable with their performance and being onstage. Lighting, music cues, and all other changes for an organized and professional performance are rehearsed so that the students make the best impression possible. Students are to arrive at the Stockey Centre half an hour prior to the time provided. This will allow plenty of time for students to get dressed and stretch. The times that are provided are an estimate and the rehearsal could run longer. Once your child finishes for the day they may leave. Please bring all required shoes and dance outfits. Costumes will not be worn. This rehearsal is closed to all parents and students.
Hair and Makeup For Stage Rehearsal
Same rules apply as class. Hair should be pulled back in a ponytail or bun. Makeup is not required.
We will be selling flowers again this year for the show. Pre-Order forms will be handed out at stage rehearsal and due by April 1st. We will also be looking for businesses that would like to advertise in the program. More information will be provided soon.
Recital Day April 18, 2020
Students are to arrive at the Charles W. Stockey Centre one hour before curtain call (12pm & 4:30pm). Please do not come dressed in costume. Students are to check in before getting ready. Sign in sheets will be at each dressing room as you enter. Females only are permitted in the dressing rooms and students should not be using the main bathroom to be getting ready. Boys will have to use the main bathroom to get dressed. Please remember to bring your makeup supplies.
Hair should be pulled back in a ponytail (curled) or bun for ballet routines.
Recreational – With all the lights we ask parents to apply cheekblush to avoid children looking washed out on stage. Older students may wear mascara and lipgloss.
We are happy to announce that there will be several special awards handed out at the end of the final show on Saturday again this year. We ask all students to stay to the end of the show so they are available to accept their award if chosen. Certificates will also be handed out to every student the last week of classes.
Merchandise Order Form
Students are required to have proper shoes and tights for the performance. We have attached an order form for parents to purchase these items. Please see the form to know what items are required for the show. Deadline to get your order forms in is March 1, 2020 by 5:00pm. Order Forms should be placed in the mailbox outside the office door with payment.
The Parry Sound Dance Academy relies on the assistance of many dedicated volunteers to provide a high-quality performance experience for your children. Your child is a direct beneficiary of this volunteer effort, so we hope that you will become an enthusiastic member of our volunteer pool. Most jobs require limited commitment at a specific time during the photo shoot, dress rehearsal and/or recital. There are many positions available for men as well as women, which makes it reasonable for families to assume their volunteer responsibility. We encourage every family to become involved with our volunteer program and welcome any contribution you are willing to make.
To become a volunteer please fill out the form and return it to the studio by March 1, 2020.
Photo Day April 19, 2020
Picture Day is an opportunity to have professional photos of your dancer in costume, both individually and with the entire class. Attendance is mandatory but purchasing is not. Please note for personal safety and because of the expensive equipment, the photographers do not allow parents in the studio with their child. Please make your child aware of this.
On this day we can either run ahead, behind or on time of schedule. Please make sure to arrive at the scheduled time to avoid missing out on photos. Students that are in multiple classes please make sure to bring dinner or snacks depending on your photo times. Please do not have your child eat or drink in the costume. The photo day schedule will be provided in March
